Just In: Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Elrufai’s $350 Million Foreign Loan Probe Commences

By Abimaje Moses

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has commenced hearing on financial dealings, focusing on $350 million foreign loans and contractual obligations incurred by the administration of former Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. The investigation is part of an ongoing effort to understand the state’s huge debt profile from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.

On its first day of proceedings, the Ad-hoc Committee, chaired by Magaji Henry, heard testimonies from five of the 16 witnesses, called to speak. He however said that the current list of witnesses is not exhaustive, suggesting that more individuals may be called to testify as the inquiry progresses.

The panel emphasised that it is dedicated to uncovering the truth, leaving no stone unturned in its investigation to ensure transparency and accountability in the state’s financial dealings.

This 13-member Ad-hoc Committee, constituted on April 16 is to examine the state’s financial management, focusing on loans and contracts agreed upon during the El-Rufai’s administration.

The outcome of the probe could have significant implications for the state’s financial future, and ongoing governance.
