Kanke TIC Chairman hails Training of Personnel for the Free Insecticide Treated Nets Distribution Campaign, Cautions against sharp practices

The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Kanke LGA, Hon Caleb Nuhu Shikir has charged participants at the ongoing Local Government Cascade Training for 36 Ward Focal Persons for the Free Distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets Campaign in Kanke LGA scheduled to commence in April.

The TIC Chairman made this disclosure on Wednesday 13th March 2024 when he made a brief stop at the NUT Hall, Kwal, Kanke LGA, venue of the training exercise. The Ward Focal Persons are undergoing a three days training which started on Tuesday 12th March 2024 and will end on Thursday 14th 2024.

Two participants each were drawn from the 18 State Wards of the area who are expected to also cascade the training to other category of personnel who will take part in the distribution exercise at the community level.

“We want to specially appreciate you all and urge you to put more effort. My emphasis to you guys is that you need to walk round the clock to ensure that our people assimilate the training.”

“Because yesterday we had a session on how to go about a net distribution. And one major area that I picked is that we intend that those nets go to those people that are in need of it.” Hon Shikir said.

The TIC Chairman warned against sharp practices, while reading out the riot act on those who will be found wanting. “And any act of diversion or any loss, whoever is in charge within that location will be reliable and you will be fined for that act.”.

While addressing the participants, TIC Chairman of Kanke LGA Hon Caleb Nuhu Shikir tasked them to take the training seriously while stressing the importance of the task ahead. “So I want to throw this challenge to us who are undergoing this training, we should be very, very mindful, let it not be like other programs that we normally do. Basically we want to ensure that this is well coordinated and the net reaches those that are in need of this. And I think the aim is for us to eradicate malaria and mosquito too. In other climbs, issue of malaria and mosquito is a bygone issue. It is here in Nigeria that we are still battling to eradicate Malaria and mosquito.”

“On that note, I want to urge us all that as we are listening and assimilating this train, we should ensure that we acquaint ourselves with the nitty gritty, so that when you are going down to step-down to those that you are going to meet at those communities and rural areas, they should be able to also understand.”

“So I want to advise and challenge us very strongly and let us not take it as other normal trainings that we go for, but this one, I think it has some professional touch and technical aspect to ensure that it goes down to those that are in need of these mosquito nets.”

“And it will not be good for me as a person that those Nets are being misused or disappear in Kanke Local Government Council. So you will be held liable for any distribution or anything that has been assigned to you to take to those communities. So please want to challenge us, Let’s ensure that we distribute as expected.”

The TIC Chairman pledged the support of the council under his leadership to ensure that the exercise is conducted smoothly and effectively.

The Plateau State Ministry of Health had announced that on 12th of April 2024, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang will launch the distribution of over 2 Million Free Insecticide Treated Nets donated by the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) and the Presidential Malaria Initiative (PMI) in 9 selected LGAs in the State. This was discloses by the Program Manager and State Coordinator of the Plateau State Malaria Initiative, Mr Ndak Kizito when he visited separately, the Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication Musa Ashom, and the Director General of the Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) Mr Samuel Dapiya.
