Jos Tech Fest: Plateau State Government set to sign landmark policy to boost Tech Ecosystem

The Plateau State Government has revealed that within day a landmark policy will be signed which will boost the tech ecosystem in the state. Government also reaffirmed its commitment to creating a supportive environment for a thriving tech ecosystem that will enhance economic activities in the region.

The Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang emphasized that his administration prioritizes empowering the younger generation to harness their potential in the tech sector for a brighter future. This was dislcosed by by the representative of the Governor and Honorable Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Obed Nanjul Goselle, during the official launch of the Jos Techfest 2024 in Jos on Thursday 28th November, 2024.

The event which held at Tamarald Event Center Jos, with the theme “Innovating for the Future: Strengthening Plateau State Ecosystem,” aims to foster technological development and collaboration within the community.

As part of efforts to encourage the tech ecosystem, Professor Goselle announced that the Governor will soon sign the “Right of Way” policies.“This initiative will allow telecommunications companies to install fiber optics free of charge, thus ensuring that operations are seamless and unimpeded,” he stated.

Prof Goselle added, “By implementing this policy, the government is not just promoting job creation but also motivating the younger generation, ultimately revitalizing the economy of Plateau State. Following this event, participants will have the chance to forge valuable connections and acquire knowledge that positions them to benefit from the special economic zone the Plateau State Government intends to develop.”

Also speaking at the event, Director General of the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), Mr Dominic Datong Gwaman said that this initiative aligns with Governor Mutfwang’s vision of empowering youth through skills development to better equip them for success in the digital economy. “I believe this is a truly wonderful event. It brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering the exchange of ideas and creating invaluable networking opportunities. This collaborative effort aims to address the challenges existing within the tech ecosystem,” Datong added.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zeustek Information Communication Technology Global Solutions, Mr Timothy Dake acknowledged the collective efforts of various partners in putting together the event. “Tech hubs like Blue House, Axia Hub, Zeustek, and others have come together to strengthen collaboration towards a common goal”.

Dake emphasized that beyond promoting innovation, the event seeks to unite all stakeholders in the ecosystem—both public and private. “Tech Fest is fundamentally about fostering innovation, collaboration, and unity, all aimed at creating a robust tech ecosystem,” he emphasized.
