Gov Mutfwang intervenes as Rainstorm Destroys a section of Plateau Specialist Hospital Quarters

Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfuwang has intervened in bring relief to victims on the destruction of property within the Plateau Specialist Hospital by rain. In the wake of the rainstorm and heavy downpour in the early hours of Friday 14th June, 2024 which affected the Plateau Specialist Hospital, the section of the hospital which housed Student Doctors on Internship was destroyed. The Eight-man Block situated behind the administrative block of the hospital had its roof removed while occupants were asleep. Their personal belongings were also not spared by the rainstorm.

Speaking to journalists shortly after inspecting the structure to assess the level of damage, the Chief Medical Director of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, Prof Christopher Yilgwan and his management team assured occupants of the readiness of management and Government of Plateau State to mitigate their plights.

In his own words Prof Yilgwan said “…this morning we woke up to find out that the whole Eight-man block, where the junior doctors, house officers are housed, was destroyed by rainstorm last night. As we speak now, all of them are stranded and displaced, their properties destroyed.”

Speaking on the quick intervention of Governor Mutfwang, the CMD added as follows “…we have actually informed His Excellency and in his usual magnanimity, he has actually provided a temporary abode for them while we have a comprehensive estimates of the problems, and then we submit for renovations. SEMA too has been informed and I can assure you that all hands are on deck to see that we address the problems. It’s unfortunate because this is a natural occurrence. No one has an anticipated budgeted for this.”

As at the time filing in this report, staff of the specialist hospital were seen inventory of the destruction and possible next line of action in line with the directive of the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Prof Christopher Yilgwan.
