Executive Committee of Unijos Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd meet VC Unijos Prof Tanko Ishaya, other Principal Officers

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya has urged the Executive Committee members of the Unijos Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (UJSMSCL) to compile all outstanding remittances from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) for onward transmission to the appropriate quarters.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the directive when the EXCO members paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Thursday 20th March 2025. According to Professor Ishaya, the present situation of shortfall is not peculiar to Unijos alone, it is a transitional phase from IPPIS which will soon be a thing of the past.

While congratulating the members of Executive Committee, he advised them to value the trust the Cooperators have reposed on them by ensuing transparency and accountability.

The EXCO were also at the Registrar’s office, Doctor Rejoice James Songden, who emphasized on confidence building, according to her as custodians of the biggest Cooperative Society on the campus, she stressed the need for proper scrutiny and accountability.

According to her, the caliber of the current EXCO members has boasted the confidence of members and hoped that it would create a paradigm shift in their psychology.

She also advised the EXCO members to amend the bye-laws accordingly in order to continue to protect the sanctity of the Cooperative and the treasures of Cooperators.

In a similar development, at the office of the Deputy Vice chancellor (Administration), Professor Joash Amupitan, who chairs the Staff Housing Committee of the institution, intimated the team of the availability of funds by Federal Government targeted at providing houses for Nigerian workers through Cooperatives.

Earlier, in his separates remarks, the President of UJSMSCL, Mr Ramson Lohfa who commended the Vice-Chancellor and other Management team for creating enabling environment for the Cooperative Society to thrive, highlighted the major challenges of the society.

Mr. Ramson stressed that Cooperatives are established for strictly welfare purposes shortfalls and non-remittances remain the biggest barriers for smooth operations.

He therefore appealed to the Vice-Chancellor and the team to lend their voices to ensure prompt payment which translates to welfare of members.
