Unijos to Host the 2025 GSAN International Conference

University of Jos is set to host the 2025 Gender Studies Association of Nigeria (GSAN) conference for the second consecutive time In two years. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Prof Emeka D Ozoji who is a Fellow of GSAN disclosed this in an interview shortly after rising from an emergency meeting of the Plateau State Chapter of the Association held recently in Jos.

Following the successful hosting of the 2024 GSAN conference in Unijos which aroused widespread awareness of and intense interest about GSAN in the North, the NEC of GSAN in its wisdom feels it is better to further solidify GSAN presence in the North before moving the conference to other parts of the country. It is to be noted that the 2024 GSAN conference was the first in the North within the eight years of the Association’s existence in Nigeria.

The Plateau State Chapter, in its emergency meeting gave due consideration to the national strategic development plan of NEC and accepted to host the conference in the overall interest of the Association. The Secretary General of GSAN Dr. Solomon Onyinyechi A Obih, speaking on behalf of NEC, appreciated the Plateau State Chapter for its magnanimous heart and sense of patriotism in accepting to host the 2025 conference.

The Chapter had before now made some preliminary plans when NEC mooted the idea of the possibility of Unijos hosting the GSAN conference back to back, pending the Plateau State Chapter endorsement With this approval by the Plateau State Chapter, the Chairman unfolded the following laid down arrangements:

1. Conference theme: AFRICAN CUSTOMS, RELIGION AND THE GLOBAL GENDER EQUALITY AGENDA: THE WAY FORWARD.

2. Key note Speaker: The erudite scholar, vast researcher, a Professor of gender and development studies, with clear passion and goal for the overall development and well being of African women and girls, Prof. Oluwafumilayo Josephine Para-Mallam, FCPA, MlodD, mni, the Director of Studies at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.

3. The renowned speaker is very knowledgeable about gender Studies, very passionate about girl child and women and recently participated in the Wolfe Institute program of gender and development in Nigeria. The Chairman noted that Prof Funmi is a round square in a round hole to intellectually and professionally address the theme of the conference, which has a grassroot appeal to any enthusiast in Gender Studies in the country.

3. The dates for the 2025 conference:

3.a. 14th April pre- conference workshop on academic writing

3.b. 15th April: Arrival of participants.

3.c. 16th April: Opening ceremony, induction of Fellows and plenary session.

3.d. 17th April: Syndicate sessions, election of officers, AGM and gala night.

3.e. April Departure.

4. The characteristic juices of 2024 conference shall be available as usual.

4.1. GSAN current journals.

4.2 Publication of Book of Abstracts.

4.3. Pre-conference workshop.

4.4. Induction of Fellows.

4.5. Membership and Conference certificates among others.

5. With the above carefully packaged program by the LOC, the 2025 conference promises to be a monumental success.

6. The detailed poster for the conference will soon be out.

7. For now interested and intending participants are invited to mark their diaries and note when all roads in Nigeria shall point to Jos for this epoch making conference, the chairman assured.
