The University of Jos Staff Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited (UJSMCSL) has held a congress meeting at the Twin Lecture Theatre Naraguta Campus, University of Jos on Thursday 29th August 2024 to constitute an electoral committee ahead of her forthcoming election. UJSMCSL being one of the biggest cooperative Societies in Northern Nigeria recently rated in the top five cooperative Societies in Plateau State by the Plateau State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is set to elect new sets of leaders.

The Congress at the event on thursday also resolved that the report of the investment Committee towards Partnering with Management of the University of Jos for the establishment of a micro Finance Bank be kept in view. Presiding over the Congress, President of the cooperative, Godwin Ukpo Aondohemba (KSM) enjoined members to look beyond individuals Ocuppaying various offices in the cooperative and take decisions that will affect the cooperative positively as elective position are transient and usually have expiration period.
While reinstating commitment to continue to serve judiciously, conscious of the fact that he will give account of stewardship to God, he called on aspiring leaders to conduct themselves well and shun all forms of politics of division blackmail and columny, rather, the focus should be on capacity and track records that will move the organization to greater heights.
The president who responded to questions from Congress members said that the families of 30 more deceased members have been paid death benefits, and the 60 million from reserve has been shared to members savings as approved by Congress in previous meeting
Members also suggested that some grey areas should be cleared in the bye laws while balloting of those to make nomination during selection of key positions was suggested as way forward to reduce pressure on the president since everyone has equal right to make nominations or be nominated for.
Worthy of note is that for the first time after a long period, Congress insisted that interest and dividends should be shared to members after the Annual General Meeting( AGM) in December as enshrined in the bye law and in the spirit of doing the right thing.

The Twin lecture theatre Naraguta Campus venue of the meeting was filled to capacity as all serving Excos some past Excos, erudite professors senior admitrators among others all turned out en mass to lend their voices toward transforming our great cooperative.
Highpoint at the meeting was the swearing-in of the Professor Jeff Doki led 7-man Electoral Committee which comprised of 3 women and 4 men. The committee is charged with the responsibility of conducting a free and fair election for the next administration of the cooperative.
May God almighty give prof. Jeff and his electoral team the grace to conduct a free , fair and credible elections in the upcoming UJSMCS.
It was so so pathetic for some group of person to put the issue of the micro finance banking on hold.
