Beautiful Gate Handicapped Peoples Center Jos Donates Tricycle Wheelchairs in partnership with Niger State Government

The Beautiful Gate Handicapped Peoples Center Jos has donated 100 Tricycle Wheelchairs, 20 Crutches and 10 Walkers to beneficiaries in partnership with the Niger State Government, through the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. The donated items were distributed to beneficiaries from the 25 Local Government Areas of Niger State.

Donating the items in Minna, the Niger State capital, Media Officer of Beautiful Gate Handicapped Peoples Center Jos, Sandra Yilgwan emphasized the organization’s vision and commitment in creating lasting positive impact, ensuring that every person with disability has access to mobility and independence. She encouraged beneficiaries to enrol in school, learn a trade or vocation, while cautioning them against selling the donated items. Yilgwan called on the Niger State Government through Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to prioritize the interest and needs of persons living with disabilities by providing enabling environment for skills acquisition, start-up capital for business ventures, and educational scholarship opportunities.

While receiving the donated items, the Executive Governor of Niger State His Excellency Muhammed Umar Bago appreciated Beautiful Gate’s efforts and promised to do more for people with disabilities in Niger State. Represented by the Honorable Commissioner Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Ahmed Baba Suleiman Yumu, the Governor cautioned beneficiaries against selling the wheelchairs, emphasizing that the purpose for the donation is to alleviate their suffering. He appealed to Beautiful Gate to consider future donations, as many people with disabilities need mobility aids.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Barrister Mairo Mann, on her own part appealed to those who didn’t benefit to be patient, promising to work on securing another donation from Beautiful Gate. She encouraged beneficiaries to shun street begging and use their time positively, highlighting the significant cost of producing the wheelchairs.

The Coordinator of People with Disabilities in Niger State announced that a task force is being put in place to arrest anyone caught selling their wheelchairs, ensuring the donations are used judiciously.
