The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang has called for immediate investigation into the cause of the unfortunate Saints Academy Busa-Buji School Building collapse in Jos which occured on Friday 12th July 2024 claiming 22 lives, while leaving hundreds injured.

Senator Pam made the call while addressing journalists during his visit to the Saint Academy School compound Busa-Buji on Sunday 14th July 2024 for an on-the-spot assessment. The Senator after inspecting the scence of the school building thanked the the Plateau State Government, security agencies, emergency workers and the public who swiftly came to the rescue at the time of the time of the incident.

He expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate incident describing it alarming, annoying and unfortunate. He prayed that such an incident never happens again. He called for strict adherence to building laws in order to check substandard institutional buildings. “It is very alarming and annoying to see students who have a better future, whose parents are in joy to see that the best is made for them. Only God knows what happened and we will not say it is somebody who planned it or it could be a natural occurrence. But it’s unfortunate that an institution or a place like this, you have such an unfortunate situation based on our technical advantage we have before setting up a structure.”

Senator Pam wondered why days after the unfortunate incident, despite the visit of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the owners of the collapsed school were yet to surface or show concern over the sad incident. He called on the owners to surface else, he will order for their arrest.
He called for proper investigation to unearth the cause of the incident. “But in view of this, I would advise that let there be a proper and a perfect investigation to know what really went on. But for now, it caught me off guard. I never knew the magnitude of the collapsed building. But I just came this morning from Abuja to be sure that I see things myself…Now that I’ve seen what has happened, it’s a very big loss and it’s a total disaster for an institution to have such a terrible misfortune.”
When asked his next line of action, Senator Pam said on return to Abuja, he will quickly sponsor a motion on the incident and possibly ask the National Assembly to come up with a legislation on the need to ensure proper structural planning before constructing educational institutions prevent the recurrence of building collapse.
“I will set a motion, I will have to direct motion to make sure that people should see something that happened to me and let it not happen to any other place. So proper investigations should be made. And maybe we have a legislation to look to be sure that schools or whatever building or an institution should have what is called perfect planned development…”. “It’s a disaster, and which I pray that it should not happen somewhere else…Let the cost of the law be followed.” he added.
To the families of the deceased, Senator Pam prayed for God to comfort them while assuring them of his support to ameliorate the situation. “To the parents of those that lost. They should take heart..”.

He later visited the various hospitals where some of the survivors were still receiving treatment and recovering to greet and encourage them. He also visited the residence of late Chief Imam of the Jos Central Mosque, Late Shiek Lawandi Adam to condole his family over his recent demise.
