Plateau North Senator visits School Building Collapse site – condoles Government and People of Plateau State – calls for investigations into cause of incident – promises to sponsor a motion to prevent future occurrence

The Senator representing Plateau North at the National Assembly, Dachung Pam Mwadkon has called for immediate investigation into the cause of the unfortunate Saints School Busa-Buji Building collapse in Jos which occured on Friday 12th July 2024 claiming 22 lives, while leaving hundreds injured.

Senator Pam made the call when he visited the Saint School compound Busa-Buji on Sunday 14th July 2024 for an on-the-spot assessment. The Senator thanked the the Plateau State Government, security agencies and the public who swiftly came to the rescue at the time of the time of the incident.

He expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate incident describing it alarming, annoying and unfortunate. He prayed that such an incident never happens again. He called for strict adherence to building laws in order to check substandard institutional buildings.

“It is very alarming and annoying to see students who have a better future, whose parents are in joy to see that the best is made for them. Only God knows what happened and we will not say it is somebody who planned it or it could be a natural occurrence. But it’s unfortunate that an institution or a place like this, you have such an unfortunate situation based on our technical advantage we have before setting up a structure.”

“But in view of this, I would advise that let there be a proper and a perfect investigation to know what really went on. But for now, it caught me off guard. I never knew the magnitude of the collapsed building. But I just came this morning from Abuja to be sure that I see things myself.”

“Now that I’ve seen what has happened, it’s a very big loss and it’s a total disaster for an institution to have such a terrible misfortune.”

“I will set a motion, I will have to direct motion to make sure that people should see something that happened to me and let it not happen to any other place. So proper investigations should be made. And maybe we have a legislation to look to be sure that schools or whatever building or an institution should have what is called perfect planned development…”.

“It’s a disaster, and which I pray that it should not happen somewhere else…Let the cost of the law be followed.”

To the families of the deceased, Senator Pam prayed for God to comfort them while assuring them of his support to ameliorate the situation. “To the parents of those that lost. They should take heart..”.

The Senator then visited the survivors at the various hospitals to check their status and encourage them while they recover.

The Senator also visited the residence of the late Chief Imam of the Jos Central Mosque to condole his family over the demise of their patriarch
