The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has officially announced the date and released timetable of activities for the much anticipated local government elections in the State. In a press briefing held at the PLASIEC headquarters in Jos, Chairman of the Commission Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak and his team revealed that elections will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm across the 17 local government councils in Plateau State.

In compliance with relevant sections of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission Law, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Electoral Act, the election schedule and guidelines have been released at least 90 days to the date of the elections. Prospective candidates are required to obtain nomination forms for the offices of Chairmen and Councilors between August 9 and August 13, 2024, at the PLASIEC headquarters.
The detailed election timetable includes key dates for campaign activities, party primaries, submission and verification of nomination forms, and the final list of candidates. Campaigns are set to commence on July 12, 2024, and the final day for campaigning will be October 7, 2024. The commission used the opportunity to urge all political parties and stakeholders to support and cooperate to ensure a free, fair, credible, and transparent election process.
