The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang has restated the commitment of his administration to strengthen the security of the state, facilitate the return to farming and build a new Plateau State which is anchored on Justice. Equity and Inclusiveness. The Governor made this known during the interdenominational thanksgiving service held at the Rwang Pam Township stadium Jos on Sunday 2nd June, 2024 to mark his administration’s one year in office.

“And I want to first of all, thank the Almighty God for this privilege and honor to be given this position of responsibility and trust. And I want to trust that God will grant me grace to bear it honorably and responsibly. I consider myself nothing but a debtor to the people of Plato state, and by the grace of God I will discharge this debt. I want to thank you for receiving me. Thank you for accepting me as your leader. Thank you for giving me the privilege and the honor to serve you.”

“We are trusting God that God will help us end the scourge of insecurity. I know you have borne with us, sometimes have been frustrated because it looks as if we are not doing anything. But I would like to assure you that we are doing the much we can and we continue to look for better ways of improving the security situation. We will not rest on our oars until every inch of land belonging to Plateau people is secured”.

The governor also hinted on the expedience of combating poverty in the state, stressing the need for early return now that the rains have come. “We have trusted God that this year we will go back to the farm. This year we will farm better than we did last year. And that this year God will visit us with abundance and prosperity. We are being distracted by the security challenge but the main enemy that we need to be fighting is poverty.”

“We want to ensure that God will deliver plateau from poverty because he didn’t ordain us to be poor people. He has blessed us with every good blessing in the land. Our weather is second to none in this nation and we are trusting God that the heavens have opened upon us and that the days of our favor have come. Therefore, we will fight assiduously poverty that is afflicting our people and make sure that prosperity returns to every family on the plateau by the grace of God.”

The governor emphasized the need for a united and prosperous Plateau, calling for genuine forgiveness towards one another. “Let me continue to emphasize that our desire, our dream, our expectation is that Plateau people will be one. Plateau people, may Plateau people be one, may plateau people be united. This is my prayer and I know that God will make it possible. I therefore pray that as we live here, that we will uproot every bitterness in our hearts against one another. We will throw away every unforgiving spirit that we may have towards one another. If anyone has offended you this thanksgiving day, I appeal to you. Please let bygones be bygones. Let’s forgive one another. Let’s let go of the past.”

Governor Mutfwang assured plateau citizens of his administration readiness to continut to pursue the building of a Plateau to accommodate everyone. “And I want to assure us that we are building a plateau based on justice, based on equity, based on inclusiveness, and will continue to create space for everybody to be included in governance as much as we can. We love our muslim brothers. We do not bear or harbor any ill will, any ill thoughts against you. And I want to appeal to you, cooperate with us. Let’s work together.”
The governor also used the opportunity to appeal to traders who have been displaced by the ongoing urband renewal drive by his administration to show understanding. “And I will like to appeal to all of us, all of us who are affected by some of the changes we are bringing in the town. We have had to dislocate some people in Terminus. We are also relocating some people in Bukuru. All is for our good. I want to assure you that we are not doing it out of any ill will. We are not doing it because we want to cause displeasure, we want to cause pain. But sometimes changes are inevitable and they come with pain.”
In closing Governor Mutfwang thanked the President amd Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for his steafast support for Plateau people. “Finally, as you go, I want to specially thank the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has been very gracious towards me as a person and towards Plateau. I’ve interacted with him on a number of occasions and I know his thoughts towards Plateau are thoughts for good and thoughts for progress and thoughts for development. And by the grace of God will continue to give him every necessary support to lead Nigeria out of the woods until we begin to see prosperity in our land again. We want to thank him for authorizing the security agencies to be up and doing in our state and to give us every necessary support to be able to tackle the menace of insecurity and mandatory. We therefore want to convey our special appreciation to Mister President and congratulate him also for spending one year in the office. It has been a very difficult one year but like you said, Mister President, there is light at the end of the tunnel and we believe you.”
