2024 Children’s Day Celebration: Keep Hope Alive we will continue to invest in your future – says HRH Dr Selky Kile Torughedi to Children, tasks Government, INGOs, Individuals to do more to educate Children

The Eyewei the 5th of Azzuzuama, Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State, and Amanenawei of FCT Abuja, His Royal Highness Dr Selky Kile Torughedi has assured Children of his commitment to continue to invest in their future despite the economic realities.

He called on children in the creeks of the Niger-Delta, Northern Nigeria and in all conflict regions across the world to keep hope alive as philanthropists continue to augment the efforts of governments around the world to provide them with quality educational opportunities and empowerment in order to guarantee a greater and brighter future.

HRH Dr Selky made this known in a statement on Monday 27th May 2024 while commemorating the 2024 Children’s Day Celebration. According to monarch and philanthropist, during the dark days of conflict in the Niger-Delta, he had envisioned having a brighter future for children of the region which pushed him to establish a Tuition-Free School through his foundation in his community years ago. Those pupils who started, he said have over the years moved to secondary schools and are now proud graduates and postgraduates from various Tertiary Institutions.

On the theme of the 2024 Children’s Day Celebration: “Investing in our children means investing in our future,” the Southern Ijaw monarch called on International Non-governmental Organizations and spirited individuals to look into doing more to support communities in the Niger-Delta, Northern Nigeria and all troubled regions across the world to help them have access to quality education which according to him was the best way to guarantee their future.

He emphasized the need for delibrate interventions to protect children from harmful cultural practices that prevent children from developing their God-given potentials, stressing that the Child Rights Law should be enforced in order to make life easy for children.
