Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Center Donates Hundreds of Wheelchairs, other mobility appliances to Beneficiaries in Nasarawa State

The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Center Jos has donated 100 hundred Tricycle-Wheelchairs, 30 crutches and 10 white canes to persons living with disability in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. This is in continuation of intervention efforts by the organization in providing mobility support for persons living with disabilities to help the. become useful members of the society.

In his remark at the distribution event on Saturday 25th May, 2024, the Executive Director of the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Center Jos, Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan stressed that the motive behind the donation was to ensure that persons living with disabilities are able to have mobility in order to go to school, start a business or learn a vocation in order to be economically independent and contribute to society, rather than resorting to begging.

He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the wheelchairs and other support items donated but use them for the purpose for which they were donated.

Earlier in his remark, member representing Obi State Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon (Dr) Ibrahim Peter Akwe said that the intervention became important because persons living with disabilities remain very important members of the society, despite the discriminatory challenges they face.

“These are the people that are very important in the society. But yet society does not devalue them. I feel and I believe in that principle of ability and disability. We know there are a lot of potential in them. Some of them, they wanted to do some things for themselves. But unfortunately, because of lack of mobility, they are unable to do. That is the reason why we think deeply and we feel it’s very important to make these materials available for them. And by the special grace of God, the house of Assembly was even planning to make a law that will prohibit the discrimination against people living with disability. Because these people, they are very important to the society.”

He expressed gratitude to the Executive Director of the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Center Jos, Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan for donating wheelchairs and other items to support his constituents. He also urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the Wheelchairs and not sell them.

“And my advice to them. This tricycles that
given to them, they should utilize it wisely. They should not go and sell it. Because selling it will not solve the problem. Rather, they should use it in order to harness what they are expecting so that it will bring a better things to the society.”

The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Danladi Jatau who was represented by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and Member Representing Nasarawa Eggon West State Constituency Hon Abel Yakubu Bala while applauding the donations by Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Center Jos, also used the opportunity to thank the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdulahi A. Sule for establishing an Agency to cater for the needs of persons living with disabilities and for also appointing a person living with disability appointed to head the agency as Director General. This the speaker said in part of government’s effort in Nasarawa State to enthrone inclusivity in the State.

The beneficiaries who couldn’t hide their joy expressed gratitude to God for using Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Center and the Honorable Member to reach out to them.
