Again the administration of the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Governor Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang has continued to record more success as a result of Inter-Agency collaboration in the execution of government’s mandate.
Following the successes recorded from the partnership between the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) and the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) led by Mr Samuel Dapiya and Arch Hart Bankat respectively, there is more success being achieve with more agencies joining in collaboration in the enforcement of the Executive Order No. 3.

Recall that Director General of PEPSA, Mr Samuel Dapiya, flagged off the distillation of drainages in anticipation of the full commencement of the 2024 rainy season. He had noted that the efforts of government can not do it all, hence, he called on the general public to join in the keep their environments clean and ensuring that water ways are unblocked and hindrances to water follow are removed in order to prevent unpleasant experiences.
While there were response and compliance in some areas within the Jos – Bukuru Metropolis, other areas did not take the mater seriously.
In the wake of the heavy down pour of Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd April 2024, there was flooding in some areas, particularly in communities along the Bauchi Road area. The Director General of PEPSA Mr Samuel Dapiya, in company of the General Manager of JMDB Arch Hart Bankat, the Jos North-North Constituency Liaison Officer, Hon. Nuru Shehu and the Executive Secretary of Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency, Plateau State, Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot conducted a thorough on-site assessment of the damage done by the flood and also to engage with communities along Bauchi Road.

The team made a stop at Islamiya Pilot Science School Bauchi Road Jos, where they met with Baba Sagagi, the Head Teacher of the school, witnessing firsthand the extensive flood suffered by the institution. Amidst the debris, students and staff were observed tirelessly working to clear the area.
The team also interacted with residents of Dan Maraya Street and Masallacin Baba Kwalkwala, both severely impacted by the torrential rainfall. Representatives from these communities, including Alhaji Dauda Miko, Alhaji Ibrahim Narogo, Baba Ganjarma, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Mai Battery, and Alh. Musa NEPA, expressed gratitude to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and The Time is Now administration for the swift government response and highlighted the significance of the visit during this time of misfortune as this is the first of its kind.
Acknowledging the inevitability of natural disasters, community members agreed with the importance of proactive environmental protection measures, such as clearing gutters and adhering to building standards, which was emphasized by the delegation. The General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board reiterated the necessity of proper drainage construction to mitigate future calamities, underscoring the importance of implementing Executive Order 003, signed by His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
In a heartfelt plea, the DG of PEPSA urged community support for the governor’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the prosperity of Plateau State through proper sanitation. In response to the community’s appeals for assistance, the delegation assured that all concerns would be promptly relayed to the governor for immediate action.
Not resting on their oars in executing the business of governance, particularly the enforcement of the Executive Order 003, the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) and the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) conducted operations on Murtala Mohammed Way, Ahmadu Bello Way, parts of Rwang Pam Street (commonly known as the Terminus Area) and Beach Road to remove wares obstructing traffic flow, blocking of access to some buildings and shops and contributing to congestion in the city center.

During the enforcement, the Commissioner for Information and Communication Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Davou Jatau, the Director General of PEPSA, Mr Samuel Nathaniel Dapiya, the General Manager of JMDB, Arc. Hart Bankat, and General Manager, Plateau Express Services Ltd, Mr Samuel Jok Gwott alongside their respective staff, and the securities were on-site to oversee and participate in the clearance efforts.

Recall that Governor Caleb Mutfwang signed the Executive Order No. 3 before March 19th, 2024. Since then, the Plateau State Ministry of Information and Communication, Plateau State has actively engaged residents and businesses to raise awareness about this law and the government’s commitment to reducing congestion in the city, with full enforcement commencing on the 19th.
Favorable feedback have come from shop owners and other traders whose spaces were blocked by individuals occupying parking areas to showcase their products. Road users have also expressed relief.

The operation will extend to Gada Biu, Farin Gada, and Bukuru in the coming days. Additionally, the public will recall that the debris at the Jos Main Market have been removed, and non-shop-owning traders are encouraged to utilize the space temporarily for displaying their goods, as the government continues to pursue a sustainable long-term solution. The entire terminus area is wearing a new look following this wonderful and fruitful move. Indeed there is need for further collaboration to ensure that Plateau people enjoy the dividends of democracy from the administration of Governor Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang in bettering the lot of Plateau people.
