Plateau State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Bashir Lawandi Datti Emphasizes Importance of Trauma Healing in Plateau State

The Honorable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development Lawandi Datti has said that Trauma Healing is critical in the recovery of individuals, especially in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs of the state. Hon Datti made this disclosure on Saturday 17th February 2024 at the One-Day Sensitization and Trauma Healing Summit organized by the Plateau State Youth Council in collaboration with Military Special Task Force ‘Operation Safe Haven’ an the Plateau State Ministry for Youths and Sports Development, held at Vopye, Barkin Ladi LGA of the state.

While highlighting the pivotal role of the youths in the development of the State, the Honorable Commissioner called for intentional collaborations between Plateau Youths, Security Agents and government in order to guarantee sustainable peace, while also urging the youths to desist from crime and other social voices which exacerbate the gradually improving security situation in the state.

The event had in attendance mainly youths from Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi LGAs, and youths from other LGAs who came to support the event. Resource persons at the event include Mr Santos Larab, representatives of the State Security Outfit Operation Rainbow and Operation Safe Haven.

Chairman of the Plateau State Youth Council, Comrade Lot Adas while addressing journalists at the venue of the event said that “…as a leadership, talking about the leadership of the council, we have resolved that as youths, we will take the centre stage. The youths will begin to drive the peace processes, whether invited or uninvited”.

“We have resolved amongst ourselves that we’ll begin to talk with one another. We’ll begin to talk amongst ourselves to see that an end, a permanent end to this barbaric actions is achieved”.

“A couple of days ago, the leadership of the Youth Council convened a meeting which brought on board leaderships of other youth blocks, which of course are under the Youth Council, but of course have not had anything to do with the Youth Council, especially talking about achieving peace”.

“We held a meeting a couple of days ago and we unanimously agreed that it is high time we rose and leave this problem”.

Some of the participants also shared their expectations of the event, adding that stepping down the information to the grassroot was key in protecting communities through intelligence gathering and prompt sharing with security agencies and general vigilance would save lives and property.
