Students of the Plateau State University Bokkos, in collaboration with students of other Tertiary Institutions in the State have welcomed the recent change of leadership of the institution and other institutions in the State. The students who gathered at the Main Gate of the Plateau State University Bokkos carried placads with different inscription declaring support for the new Vice Chancellor Prof Shedrack Best and expressing appreciation to the Governor of Plateau State.

Recall that the Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang had recently approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of the Plateau State University Bokkos, as well the removal of the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Bennard Matur. Prof Shedrack Best was immediately appoint Ag. Vice Chancellor by the Governor. Similar changes were announced for College of Education Gindiri, College of Health Technology Zawan and Pankshin.

Reacting to the development under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS), Forum of Student Union Government Presidents and the Students Union Government of the Plateau State University Bokkos, the students stated that they were gathered “…to declare with zero equivocation… unparalleled support for the excellent dissolution of the Governing Council of the Plateau State University Bokkos and some tertiary Institutions in the state viz-a-viz the immediate appointment of eminently credible personalities to head the affected tertiary institutions.”

The students said that they were not unaware of the committee set up by the Plateau State Government to investigate the activities of tertiary institutions immediately Governor Mutfwang assumed office, adding that they believed that the recommendations from the committees must have informed the decision to initiated his actions.
They called on the people of Plateau State to support the Governor while he marshals the repositioning of tertiary institutions in the state. They noted that the business of education in the State can not advance without some tough decisions, hence the Governor was on track in taking education to enviable heights in the state.

They called on Governor Mutfwang to look into what they described as pockets of internal challenges within some tertiary institutions which were ignored by the immediate past administration with the view of addressing them and doing more for the educational sector in the State.
They used the opportunity to condemn in strong terms the insecurity and economic hardship across the country, while calling on the Federal government to expedite actions to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.
